The Veterinary Specialty Center of Seattle (VSCS) is a 24-hour Emergency and Critical Care and Specialty hospital. We offer a collaborative approach to veterinary medicine. We support Emergency and Critical Care, Neurology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Oncology and Radiology, all in one hospital. We pride ourselves on providing compassionate medical care and exceptional client service.
We are a diverse group of assistants, licensed veterinarian technicians and doctors ranging from residents in training to board certified. Job Summary
The Surgery Referral Coordinator assists with the day-to-day coordination and flow of the surgery departments. The Surgery Coordinator will act as a liaison between the surgery teams and the clients whose pets are being treated at the hospital. The coordinator will help provide communication to clients to keep them informed and provide support to the surgery doctors for the purpose of making case flow as efficient as possible. The Surgery Coordinator directly reports to the Client Service Manager and may receive directions from the Hospital Staff Manager, Hospital Administrator, Medical Director, and the emergency and critical care veterinarians.
Primary Responsibilities
- Our Referral Coordinators (RCs) answer the phone, schedule appointments, greet clients, admit and checks out patients, process payments, manage financial information, and communicate information between clients and staff.
- The RC enjoys working with people and diverse clients and is caring, friendly, and efficient. They create a warm and welcoming impression remaining professional and courteous while handling multiple tasks with many interruptions.
- Our RCs firmly believe in the quality of care provided and communicate this sense of assurance to clients. They understand our services and recommendations and clearly communicate them to clients.
- RCs empathize with clients and remain compassionate and well-mannered if a client becomes emotional or discourteous. They remain calm and collected in the face of emergency situations. Ultimately, it is the RC who creates a good first and last impression on our clients. The importance of this role cannot be over-emphasized.
Additional Duties
- Follows hospital policies including safety guidelines regarding radiographs, controlled drugs, and animal handling.
- Follows OSHA guidelines concerning safety and handling of hazardous materials.
- Attend all staff and department meetings as requested.
Job Qualifications
- Experience in the veterinary field for two or more years highly preferred-client service and/or veterinary assistant
- Know the range of services the practice provides and the species it treats
- Ability to follow OSHA standards and hospital policies
- Know standard medical and business abbreviations
- Demonstrate ability to show empathy toward clients and treat animals with respect and compassion
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Compensation is negotiable based on credentials and experience with an hourly pay rate starting at $20-24 / hour. The actual rate offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
